The eloquent sculpture of internationally acclaimed artist Gedion Nyanhongo resonates with the emotions of human life while embodying the richness of African Culture. His sculptures take the people where they come from and to where they are today, moving with ease through time and place speaking a visual language that is widely embraced.

Preferring to work in the solitude of his private rural workshop, it is the relationships of life that fuel his inspiration. He is the consummate observer, always documenting in his mind the subtleties of life around him. He takes note of single gestures, random expressions and the varying means of communication that abound between people, animals and spirits.

As a proud Zimbabwean man, Gedion speaks of and to his people, while at the same time addressing the world communities at large. He is of the belief that people share a common thread around the globe and it is by no coincidence that his work speaks evocatively of such a universal human condition. He often refers to himself as an “international artist” holder of a global passport.

Born into an artistic family on December 22, 1967, Gedion first learned to sculpt from his father Claud Nyanhongo a prominent artist amongst the first generation sculptors (the pioneers of Zimbabwe sculpture movement that began in the late 1950's). His sister, Agnes Nyanhongo, is one of the most celebrated female artists in all of Africa.
